Constructing Noble Reflections/ Channeling Voices of Resiliency (2020)

In Constructing Noble Reflections, I superimposed myself dressed in 20th century glam onto a video made from found footage. I examine and recontextualize glam as not only outer beauty but also dignity and humanity. I also question what it means for these images to be juxtaposed in the context of glam. I wanted to expand on the ideas from Constructing Noble Reflections in the context of Uptown fashion, a style of clothing created in the 1960s that wasn’t just aesthetics but spoke to a broader cultural consciousness about the social and political movements of the time. Uptown was a visual representation of these beliefs, afros, headwraps, and African fabrics mixed with leather jackets, peace signs, and shift dresses.
